Invention of New Explanatory Tools

It is sometimes necessary, when dealing with particularly complex systems, for a creative investigator to invent a new representation. Examples include the calculus of Liebnitz and Newton, Maxwell–Boltzmann's statistical mechanics, and the ideal, rational decision maker, Homo economicus, of Mill's economic theories. Simon[Simon] points out that representations can be thought of as extension of analogical reasoning. These situations may lead to the introduction of new explanatory frameworks.
